Darrius was very personable, amiable and entertaining. Fit in well with the theme of the occassion. Worked well with the band that we hired, even playing together on a few songs. Experience was excellent.

FuneralReviewed on February 7, 2007From Bayside, NY

We hired Darius for a Funeral. He was very professional and dressed the part (even in the freezing cold weather). I think this bagpiper is perfect for St. Paddy's day parties as background music. Unfortunately, we hired him for a funeral and all ears were on him as the casket was being brought into the church. It sounded ok at first and then we heard the squeaks and missed notes. On the way out of the church he began to play again. Again there were lots of pitch problems. He continued to play well after the casket was in the hearse. While the widow was accepting condolences, he played on. She could barely hear because the bagpiper would not stop playing. He is decent enough to play at drunken parties, but I wish he wouldn't play at a funeral again. He was distracting, and not up to parr for an event like this. Aside from all of that, his price range says 100-500. He was at the church for less than an hour and played 2 songs. He charged me $200. I can't imagine what he would do for $100. I am not happy with this experience, and the family was actually angry with me for hiring him. My advice for anyone dealing with funeral arrangements is to let the funeral director deal with everything. They will get a proffessional accredited bagpiper for you.

:

First of all, I would like to point out that one of the people attending the funeral approached me afterwards, weeping, and thanked me, telling me that my playing was "a great contribution" to the funeral. So the above comments were not necessarily the only viewpoint! Ok, the "squeaks": This was a very cold winter day -- The temperature with the wind was in the teens if not lower, and bagpipes ideally are not meant to be played in those conditions -- They CAN be played, of course, but many things can happen -- Squeaking reeds, or reeds that shut off and won't play at all. This is just the way it is -- the pipes are wood and leather. How would a clarinetist or

Birthday Party (Adult)Reviewed on June 2, 2011From Whitestone, NY

I was disappointed. He didn't know Irish songs or bagpipes. He said he marched with Monaghan 20 yrs ago and couldn't remember the tones. Duh.. that's why I hired him. A nice guy. The group loved him but I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. To be honest, I feel taken. I wouldn't show it in front of my mother and her friends. He wasn't very good .. I know the difference. He wasn't.

:

1) I was NOT hired because of my association with Monaghan – Client didn’t even know about this until the day of the event. 2)I am a professional with a standard repertoire. I asked for special requests when I was booked, which I played. But at the event client requested tunes I hadn’t played in 20 years! Also, I allowed guests to make requests, some of which were less common. So I played the ones I knew. I even taught the words to several songs – AND I played bagpipes, Irish whistle, Irish drum, spoons AND sang – Who else would have done that? One guest asked me to play at her funeral, another wants to hire me for an event – All but one person had a great time!

WeddingReviewed on March 17, 2006From Bronx, NY

I was extremely frustrated when our bagpiper Darius called me the night before the wedding (less than 24 hours before he was supposed to be playing) to inform us that he WOULD NOT be able to make it because he gotten a better offer, completely disregarding the contract we had. He then informed me he had another piper to play, Tim Grant, and he raved about how wonderful and professional Tim was. He told me Tim knew all the details of our wedding, where the church was, time to be there, songs to play etc. He guarenteed us Tim would be fantastic. We felt we were given no choice than to just go with Tim, who we knew nothing about. Darius gave me Tim's phone number, I called him and he assured me everyhting would be perfect. Time was given instructions by both Darius and myself to arrive at the church by 5:30 THE LATEST in order to be playing during our receiving line which began at 5:45pm. He was supposed to play for 30-40 minutes. However when we walked out of the church at 5:50pm Tim was still nowhere to be found. With no bagpiper there to listen to, every just got in their limos and cars at 6pm and left for the reception. On our way to the reception I checked my cell phone and there was no call from Tim or Darius to let us know what happened. I called Darius to thank him for giving a piper that never showed up and he had no idea what happened. I told him if he got in touch with him to at least send him to our cocktail hour, even though we had many family and friends that were very disappointed there was no piper at church on st. patricks day. Darius did get in touch with Tim and sent him the Botanical Gardens for cocktail hour. Cocktail hour began at 7pm, Tim arrived at 7:20pm so we figured he would play the entire duration of cocktail hour. Instead he took 3 breaks in the 35 minutes that he played. Overall we were extremely disappointed because we wanted someone playing outside the church. The whole reason we didnt want a piper for cocktail hour was because it was too overwhelming in such a small room. I am so upset that we paid the full $350 for such an unprofessional experience. To be honest I feel we should be refunded some of our money. -Melissa Medina-Deierlein

:

First of all, I wish to offer my apologies and condolences to the bride and groom -- This was an unfortunate circumstance, and I am sorry about that. I will be refunding their $50 deposit. My reason for cancelling at the last minute was an offer to perform on national television -- a once-in-a-lifetime which no performer could reasonably be expected to turn down. I was able to find a substitute piper -- I WOULD NEVER CANCEL A GIG WITHOUT FINDING A SUB! Unfortunately, the piper I found got stuck in terrible traffic -- He knows the area, and said it was the worst traffic he has ever seen -- 2 hours to get from Manhattan to the Bronx. THERE WAS NO WAY TO PRE

Absolute magic. Darius turned my husband's 60th birthday celebration into something extraordinary. He has a lively, kind-hearted spirit and his music captivated the entire crowd. He was professional, courteous and mindful of the natural breaks between toasts and throughout the meal. His talent is beyond measure- so much fun! Your cheeks will hurt from all the smiling. Look no further, you will be delighted.

Wedding CeremonyReviewed on September 17, 2017From Staten Island, NY

Darius is super talented and was absolutely amazing while performing at my daughter's wedding. The wedding was held outside at the Veranda Café at Silver Lake GC in Staten Island on a totally gorgeous day and all the guests raved about him. The best part however was that the bride and groom had no idea he was going to perform at their ceremony and were completely surprised and blown away! Darius was engaging and accommodating and would highly recommend him to anyone. Thank you again Darius for sharing and taking part in our special day!

Thanks so much, Steve! - Wishing you and your family all the best... Darius

WOW!!! Darius is such a talented musician. It was so enjoyable having him perform at my birthday party. He plays multiple instruments, hands out music lyrics for all to follow along and join in (which most people do if you give them the lyrics!), got the children involved and takes requests and plays all the old favorites. I highly recommend Darius (Bagpipes and Celtic Music) for your next function....so talented and personable! I great musician and a great guy! Barry
