WeddingReviewed on December 29, 2007From Glenview, IL

We had a song request for our first dance at the wedding and for the father daughter dance. While the band could play the songs that were so important to us, the soloist couldn't sing the songs. She was a replacement as someone got sick, but we didn't find out until that day. Everything else was great, but we were disappointed that we didn't get to dance to the lyrics of our special song.

They were absolutely wonderful. I will consider having them again. The guests at the party enjoyed them and I received so many complements about them.

ConventionReviewed on October 1, 2007From Chicago, IL

The Matt Nelson Trio arrived on time and ready to go. I thought the choice of music they selected was perfect for our pre-conference reception. We received a lot of great feedback from our guest about the choice of bands and how the added touch of the trio made the reception relaxing and inviting as folks geared up for a very busy week. I would certainly hire the Matt Nelson Trio again and look forward to working with them in the future.

We hired the Matt Nelson Trio to play for our wedding on 07/14/07 and they were absolutely wonderful. I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a talented, fun jazz trio for their special occasion.

The performers were excellent. I've had some trouble trying to make the payment on the website, however. That is related to the website and not the performer. I would recommend this performer and use them in the future as well. Thank you.

Corporate FunctionReviewed on November 26, 2024From Chicago, IL

The overall experience was average. 2 out of 3 musicians arrived later than the agreed time, which caused more stress than I already was experiencing. I asked for a sound check to ensure the volume would be satisfactory and the 1 musician that was on time said they'd done this a lot of times, and they know what the audience likes. That reassured me for about 30 minutes. The event was kicking off at 5:30pm and I was hoping to have the band start at 5:20pm, just in case we had early arrivals. Surprise! We had early arrivals, and the band refused to start before 5:30pm. During their scheduled break, they didn't play any background music, and the room was DEAD SILENT.

:

While we appreciate your feedback, this is simply not true. All musicians were on time and setup well before start time as I have documented text and call proof. We were contracted to start at 5:30pm and if we agree to start earlier at the actual event that day when the request is made 15 min before designated start time, we aren't obligated to do so, but would be doing so as an extra accommodation, a favor. And the trio started 5 min early at 5:25pm which I have documented in text and witness proof. You said “they reassured me for about 30 minutes” which means that the group was all there and setup at least 30 minutes before start time as I just stated and you backed up. That part about refusing to start early is simply not true. The band started early. We went above and beyond and the guests were having a great time and we received many compliments. Bckgrd music during break was never worked out ahead of time. I even spoke to you about this at the event. Some clients like a break.

They played my wedding. Matt played solo piano for the seating and ceremony and was joined for the full trio during cocktail hour and dinner. The music was great and everyone commented on how much they loved them!

The Matt Nelson Trio provided the perfect music for our corporate networking reception. They played great music at just the right level so that people could still talk and network. Graham was my contact and was very easy to do business with. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great 3-piece band for a corporate function! Al though I didn't get the full chance to sit and listen to the entire set due to the wedding and making my rounds and all, what I did hear and see was absolutely fantastic and I would recommend them to anyone.

Private PartyReviewed on September 28, 2006From Chicago, IL

These three young men provided the entertainment for my father's 80th birthday party and he has been a jazz lover all his life. When I saw how young the band members looked I wasn't sure if they'd really know jazz the way my dad would want to hear it, but they quickly put those fears to rest. They were simply fantastic musicians, completely professional and very well mannered. You could tell they were really having fun just playing the music they loved and everyone at our party commented on what a great job they did. They were also very in tune to what was happening at the party and gearing their music to be appropriate--more quiet for background music, more up tempo for dancing, etc. These guys would be great for a dance, cocktail party, wedding reception, birthday party or any event where you want to creat some great atmosphere. Keep up the great work! -Rick

WeddingReviewed on August 6, 2006From Glen Ellyn, IL

Listened to the needs of the clients. Understood the task and performed expertly without exception. Worked with the Country Club expertly. Graham [Bass player] was wonderful with communication and arrangements beforehand with e-mail, phone and mail. Response from the attendees was overwhelmingly outstanding and many wanted their cards. Country Club also was impressed and added them to their list of recommended jazz trios. In addition to all comments above, they were polite, timely, professional and properly attired. Upbeat jazz at its best. We now know who to call for an excellent performance.
