Jay the Violinist is a Charlotte based violinist who loves to travel! A graduate of Furman University, Jay has been performing since the age of 9. Her mother had her performing in church services, local events, parties, etc. These performance opportunities were the start of a lifelong love for performing. Jay taught public school orchestra for 8 years and instilled the love of performing in her students. When it became difficult to juggle a fulltime job and managing the business, Jay decided to step out of the classroom and pursue the business, Upstate Strings, LLC, full time. In addition to performing solo violin, Jay can also assemble larger ensembles such as violin/guitar duo, violin/cello duo, violin/piano duo, violin/harp duo, string trio, harp trio, string quartet, etc. Jay works with several talented and local musicians. Jay can perform any type of music. Jay grew up classically trained and studied violin under the direction of Thomas Joiner at Furman University. She started playing alternative styles of music in middle school when her mother had her experimenting with gospel and R&B. Now, she is able to perform all styles of music!
