About Vendor

Philadelphia's first tango music ensemble, Oscuro Quintet, evokes the passion and the grace of tango from dance floors to concert halls with a mind toward both the music of the past and the vanguard of progression. Guitarist Alban Bailly, bassist Benjamin Blazer, bandoneonist Shinjoo Cho, pianist Saine Hsu, and violinist Joseph Kauffman bring together their international and diverse musical backgrounds to offer fresh interpretation of tango and a new breed of exciting chamber music. Since its founding in 2006, Oscuro Quintet has appeared at the Kimmel Center, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Annenberg center, Painted Bride, and Tango Factory at Drom (NYC) and performed extensively with tango dancers and events in the Tri-State area. Oscuro Quintet released its first full-length album on Parma Recordings in November 2011 and appeared on WHYY's TV show On Canvas, which hailed them as “a modern supergroup… one of the most original and acclaimed tango ensembles on the East Coast.” Their large repertoire includes traditional tango, music of Astor Piazzolla, and new chamber music written and adapted for their unique and versatile instrumentation.
