Melody Barnes Singer from Washington, DC

Detroit native, Melody Barnes - aka "The Soul Butterfly," is not your typical vocalist, she's also a 2009 Stellar Music Award Nominee for New Artist of the Year and Fan Favorite. Perhaps, one of her greatest accomplishments was to receive the 2008 WAMMIE (Washington Area Music Award) Winner for Best Female Gospel/Inspirational Recording for her multi-genre debut project, "The Reason." For her first full studio recording, Melody wrote and co-produced all but one of its songs. As one of the most versatile vocalists and in the area, Melody continues to do just what she was taught by her mother to do at a young age - embrace, love, grow and nurture the universal gift that is Music! Well known for her spot on renditions, Melody has performed tribute performances featuring the hit songs of Diana Ross & The Supremes, Stephanie Mills, Denise Williams, Teena Marie and others! She is a dynamo on the microphone and a gifted multi-genre and multi-generational performer! It's no wonder she was affectionately deemed, "The Voice" by many of her musical peers while performing at DC's former legendary music hot-spot, The Channel Inn. Ultimately, Melody brings to the stage a fresh sound with a unique vocal blend of Soul, Jazz, R&B, and Traditional Gospel for a refreshing mix of Classic and Contemporary that is all her own!
