Phil Thomas Music Singer Guitarist from Vinton, IA

Phil Thomas has been an active performer in a number of local bands playing throughout Eastern, and Southeastern Iowa. During the past six years he has been an active member of the bluegrass group, Straightback Chair. He has been a featured vocalist, mandolin, and back up singer for the group. In addition, he is a founding member of the acoustic ensemble, “The Cedar River Whalers” who perform out of the Vinton, IA area. In this group he plays guitar, mandolin, and electric bass along with being a featured vocalist, and back up singer. Recently, he has also been performing with S, P & B, a trio that specializes in acoustic performance of Americana music. Here he again is one of the featured vocalist and does harmony work as well. All three groups utilize original material, some of which Thomas has written. As a solo performer, he enjoys a wide range of Americana, Roots, Folk and Bluegrass material that compliments his own original material. In his solo performances, he covers a wide range of genres, and musical styles. His primary focus in his solo performances are guitar accompanied songs, utilizing finger picking, and Carter style strumming styles. His distinctive tenor voice is augmented by electronic pedals to achieve two and three part harmonies.
