Saxophonist Joe Wilson is a professional musician providing jazz groups, solo performance, live DJ accompaniment, and additional musical services to make your wedding, party, corporate event, charity fundraisers, festivals, or artistic projects special. Based in the Raleigh-Durham Triangle of North Carolina, Joe performs both locally and worldwide. He has years of experience and comfort preparing and performing music in virtually all genres and situations, and familiar with repertoire from many genres, cultures, and traditions-- including hora music, tarantellas, salsa/boogaloo standards, reggae, African music; and the soul, rock, funk, jazz and swing classics from America's golden ages (the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, '80's, 90's, and 2000's) plus the latest radio hits in pop, hip hop, and R&B. The range of services Joe has previously provided to clients referred through The Bash include: --Organizing and Leading Bands of world-class musicians (potentially any size from duo to big band, and selected to specialize in the music for your event) --Solo serenading (ideal for surprise marriage proposals, Valentine's Day and Birthday "gifts") --Cocktail party Jazz, with band or accompanying backing tracks (ideal your cocktail hour, private parties / events) --Live Jamming Sax on the dance floor w / DJ (ideal for Dance Party Wedding receptions, and large DJ party celebrations) --Solo acoustic saxophone (ideal for wedding ceremonies, and funeral services) --Studio Session Work (sight-reading, soloing, writing, arranging, recruiting/leading horn sections and other session musicians, production) --Ambient Sound Atmosphere Creation (ideal for "alternative" life events, art exhibitions, yoga / spiritual gatherings and classes, and theater/movie soundtracks). Joe previously lived and worked for years in the vibrant music scenes of New York City and Houston, as well as touring with original bands throughout the continental United States, Brazil and Europe. In 2021 he received a South Arts Fellowship to compose and perform a multi-media saxophone work in Berlin, Germany, and in 2022 he graduated magna cum laude from North Carolina Central University, where he earned a master's degree in Jazz Studies under the mentorship of local legends such as Branford Marsalis, Brian Horton, Joey Caldarazzo and Ira Wiggins. As the reviews attest, Joe takes communication and preparation every bit as seriously as the performance itself. Whether it's finding workarounds for your budget, itinerary times, song ideas and selection, technical spec's, dress code, or planning how to make a surprise marriage proposal a success, Joe will respond quickly and fully to any questions, requests, concerns, or unusual circumstances, and go the extra mile to make things work. And, he makes sure that all necessary parties are happily on the same page about the logistics and budget of any event before confirming any booking. Joe is available by text, e-mail, video chat, or phone calls with his clients around the clock, before and after any event.
