As a lead Big Band Sax/Flute/Clarinetist I've played dozens of celebrations for 18-piece big bands, marching bands, rock n' roll, and dixieland bands over the last 20 years. Sometimes, both the venue and the budget call for something smaller and less expensive. To meet this need, I started providing solo instrumentals with recorded backing tracks. Depending on the situation and the ambiance, I can provide smooth jazz saxophone playing tunes such as Winelight, Smooth Operator, Moondance, Impressions, Satin Doll, Morning Dance, or Coming Home Baby. Recently I was asked to do an all-Motown event, featuring Dancing in the Street, Superstition, All in Love is Fair, When a Man Loves a Woman, Heard it through the Grapevine and Knock on Wood. I LOVE latin and bossa nova and have a great collection for Flute with backing tracks including Girl from Ipanema, Manha de Carnaval, Bim Bom, Summer Samba, Gentle Rain, La Bamba, Agua de Beber, Corcovado and more. For the swing crowd I can't wait to break out the licorice stick to play Django Reinhardt (Menilmontant, Gypsy Swing, Swing 42, Sous le Ciel de Paris, Petit Fleur), Dixieland (All of me, Ace in the Hole, St. James Infirmary, Saints, Creole Love Call) or even big band swing (In the Mood, Tuxedo Junction, Sentimental Journey, Moonglow, Perdido, Little Brown Jug etc.). By the way, I can hardly wait for someone to ask me for some hard rock. Flute through a stomp box with a bit of distortion on Locomotive Breath, White Room or Josie is awesome. CHRISTMAS IS COMING!!! For Christmas I can offer a wide variety of jazzy Christmas tunes as solo saxophone with backing tracks. This includes tunes such as Feliz Navidad, O Holy Night, Rudolf the Red nosed reindeer.. but generally these are done in smooth jazz or funky styles where you'd be hard pressed to recognize the tunes immediately. AND NEW THIS YEAR! Christmas Carols by Sax Quartet. Yes, the coolest most beautiful versions of beloved carols played by 4 saxes! Check my sample recordings for a taste of this holiday treat! Recorded tracks are played through a portable PA system with great speakers and projection for a room of 100 or so. Just the thing for a winery, wedding cocktails, quiet dinner party, or river cruise.
