Sugar Rock Band from Akron, OH

Based in Akron,Ohio,the band Sugar came together early 2005,and their debut album 11 After reinvents chick rock.That's because the band has a leader-guitarist Rose Kuhel,who has a commecial ear and understands each of her band members emotional and musical influences. Singer Lil D is an extremistwhen it comes to the rights of senior citizens in the U.S. of A,and spends her nights working as a bartender.her favorite singers are icons from previus generations--Janis Joplin,Patsy Cline'Ella Fitzgerald.D says'I have Got the goth look but do not like goth music.' Rose loves Bruce Lee,fitness and goal setting,plus she enjoys experimenting with lipstick and hair colors.She's into Social Distortion,Warrant,and Johnny Cash. Bassist Danielle-- who also plays piano,drums,and guitar--is into racing go-carts and dirt bikes as much as she enjoys shoppind.Her favorite records are by the Mamas and the Pappas,Madonna,Pearl Jam,Nirvana,the Carpenters,E.L.O,Rush,Alice in Chains,and Snoop Dogg. In late 2004 Rose,Lil D and other friends went into the studio under Sugar's original name,11 after,with former Warranr singer-songwritter Jani Lane producing the the album.When the band was ready to go on their first tour,the Metal Sludge Extravaganza,they invited Holly to join.'i had always wanted to play with an all-girl band',said the outdoorsy basketball fan and drummer,who likes Evanescensce,Nickleback,Three Doors Down,and country music,plus shopping for shoes. Sugar's sound is glam rock with Brittish invasion and punk pop with smart ass but well thought out vocal styling,because of the good sounding guitar,bass,and drum work on the album.There will be some comparisons to the Pretenders and the Kinks,because Sugar is from Akron,Ohio,the same town as Pretenders' leader Chrissie Hynde. Unlike Hynde the group enjoyed their hometown and found it to be very supportive of a varietty of music styles.Rose was the bassist for Cherry Bomb,whose aborted 1990s album that featured production from both Kim Fowley and Jack Ponti(Nelson,India Aire,and Alice Cooper). 'Why leave home,if what you're looking fro is in your own back yard,'says Rose.'Lil D's singingreflects my imagination.Very seldom do bands have singers where thy take on the intent and quality of what the leader--the principal songwritter wants.She takes my songs and instictively sings them the way they were meant to be.Wiyh Sugar,I have everything I need.'
