Companies: Co-Founder & Public Speaker @ Konnect the Dots Inc. Trainer/Consultant for University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine & Department of Psychiatry Formerly Peer Support Specialist at University of Maryland Medical Center & Sheppard Pratt Health System Bio: Sean “Scoe Romero” Driscoll is a 28 year old dynamic and interactive public speaker, youth advocate and voice for the voiceless who’s on a mission to help the next generation control their own narrative by being the example he never had, after being counted out at a young age himself. Sean was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and psychosis in high school at 16 and has spent much of his life standing up for people that often feel forgotten and overlooked. His biggest joy in life has been finding fulfillment from his purpose by trusting his own inner voice and going after what he knew he was destined to do despite most telling him it was impossible. In May of 2024, Sean Co-founded a public speaking and educational training enterprise (Konnect the Dots Inc) alongside one of his favorite former colleagues Kait Rosa, who is now an LCSWC, and the woman who gave them their first jobs in Mental Health (as mental health facilitators) 8 years ago, LCPC Heather Cedeño. Konnect the Dots is a Nonprofit initiative geared towards combating bullying and getting to the root of substance abuse and mental health problems using art, music and other forms of pop culture along with lived experience and personal testimony to provide relatability for students in the classroom and auditorium settings. This helps them view first hand that life gets better quicker when we are honest, kind and authentic with ourselves and to one another. We show youth that there are people that actually deal with pain in healthy ways without numbing, and discuss true self care techniques with the youth in a safe space, to help them know they are not alone and guide them in finding strategies that work individually for them to deal with the pain that life brings to each of us. We also train staff on better ways to relate and reach the youth to improve behavior, emotional well being and academics in the classroom and to take with them in their lives. Sean is also a songwriter (and now artist as Scoe Romero) in the music business, and currently Trains and Consults for the University of Maryland, Baltimore serving in his role to oversee staff in the five Maryland Early Intervention Programs for people aged 15-35 who have had multiple major hospitalizations for early onset psychosis/schizophrenia, one of which he was a patient in himself for three years beginning at 16 years of age. At age 20 he began working in the mental health field directly serving clients, and at 26 years old he became a Certified Peer Support Specialist right before landing his current position at University of Maryland. In January of 2023, after finding out he had been impacted by the Abilify class action lawsuit, he decided to turn to a fully holistic self care routine (comprised of dietary changes, exercise, sauna, and meditation practices) and is currently over 18 months pharmaceutical medication free. When speaking to the youth he reminds them that he is not anti-medicine, but pro self care and self awareness, as he still receives therapy and is under the direct care of a psychiatrist (even without being on a medication any longer). Upon choosing his own path of healing, he found peace from utilizing these strategies, listed above and lost a total of 90 pounds (from 275 to 185.) His story is a powerful reminder that recovery looks different for everyone and that people don’t have a right to place limitations on what others are capable of achieving, even if they have a mental health diagnosis.
