The Random Concept Variety Band from Canaan, CT

The Random Concept just may be Connecticut's oldest, still together and performing, rock band! A unique group, featuring a blend of driving electric rock music and traditional acoustic sounds, the band originated in the mid 1960's and was prominent in the vibrant 60's NYC music scene and throughout the Northeastern US. Three of the original members, Gary Higgins, Dave Beaujon and Terry Fenton are still with the band; the current lineup also features Dave VandeBogart, who joined the group in 1981. The original band included Simeon Coxe, who went on to form the electronic group, "Silver Apples" and gained worldwide acclaim. He is considered by many to be the grandfather of modern synthesizer music. In 1972 Gary Higgins and members of the Random Concept recorded his masterpiece album, "Red Hash". Sleeping for nearly three decades, the vinyl album landed in Europe, where it was pirated and then turned into a CD. The pirated version made its way back to America where fans, both new and old, embraced it as a "cult psychedelic classic". Chicago based Drag City Records hunted Gary down in 2005 and reissued the album. The 'new' release propelled the band back into the national and international limelight. In 2008, Gary and the band recorded "Seconds" featuring all new, post 2005 music. Gary's latest vinyl and CD release (March 2011) called "A Dream A While Back" is also on Drag City Records. Dave Beaujon and Terry Fenton (Bass and Keys) also have extensive song writing, production and studio experience. Together they formed the "Sportswear" band whose latest CD "DNR" has garnered much critical musical acclaim. Dave VandeBogart, aside from being a very talented guitar player is also an accomplished song writer and a producer and is soon to release his 2nd solo CD later this year. The band has toured throughout the US and Canada, including an appearance at the famed 2008 SXSW music festival in Austin TX. They are soon to release their long awaited all original, electric album featuring compositions from the 60's as well as a few more current tunes.
