Nathaniel Kent is the grandson of the renowned blues artist Frank Stokes, acknowledged as the Creator of the Memphis Blues, who performed on world-famous Beale Street during the 1920- 30s. Following in this musical tradition, Nathaniel began developing his vocal talent during his high school years with the hottest soul vocal group in Memphis, the Notations, who also performed on Beale Street. Later Nathaniel, while working with a vocal group known as the Prolifics, came to the attention of the President of STAX Records, Al Bell. Nathaniel became lead singer of the group at the direction of Al Bell who also accompanied them on piano.
