RTB Collective Jazz Band from Seattle, WA

RTB (formerly limited to the 200 Trio) is a collective of musicians united by a shared love, passion, and respect for the music they play that stretches to the core of each musician’s identity. RTB stands for "Reason To Be," which is essentially a translation of the French phrase, "raison d'être." This mantra is present on the bandstand at any RTB event. After more than a decade in Seattle of constantly straddling the balance between performing with a band on stage one night and working to make the necessary adjustments to bring that same feeling to a completely different event setting the next, drummer Max Holmberg formed RTB to make the process as seamless as possible. Conglomerate corporate event bands have been slowly taking over the event band scene and at the same time, quashing any semblance of true soul on stage at these events. RTB is the response to this; instead of being comprised of random musicians from all over the place who simply care about getting paid at the end of the night, it incorporates intentionally chosen musicians and friends from many professional ensembles based in the Seattle area as needed to best fit the needs of the event at hand, whether it be a wedding, corporate event, private party, or concert. The collective’s areas of expertise are centered in (but not limited to) the music of the American jazz lineage. The RTB process involves coordinating the instrumentation needed to bring specific music to life, organizing rehearsals if necessary, making sure the group size will work with the size of the venue/performance area, procuring any A/V and professional sound equipment needed and minimizing costs without sacrificing the utmost focus on quality. Collectively, RTB’s musicians have performed all over the world on some of the most prestigious stages all the way down to the most under-the-radar intimate venues in Seattle and have been recipients of and nominated for dozens of Earshot Golden Ear awards.
