I started personal training and competing in bodybuilding in 1995. My world seemed to fall apart in 1998 with a divorce and the death of my biggest mentor at the time, my dad. That was only the beginning. In 2004, I was challenged with another divorce and a terminal cancer diagnosis. Modern medicine gave me no hope. I returned to my nutrition knowledge and set out to find a way to not only win the battle, but thrive in an adventure filled life. I've researched and implemented more alternative cancer treatments than I knew existed! In 2007, since I was still alive, I decided to face the things that scared me most...heights and flying. My 3rd skydive resulted in torn core muscles and an L-1 burst fracture. The nurses in the emergency room said I'd probably never walk again. The CT scan showed the cancer in my liver was gone...confirmation that my alternative treatments were working. The crash gave me HOPE! My mantra for the next 3 days before surgery was "Thank you God, I can move my toes." My incredible neurosurgeon must have known by my muscularity that future movement was important to me. The plastic rods holding my back together (without a fusion) not only work, but allow for full range of motion. Once again, I decided it was time to face more fears. I kayak in Puget Sound - even though I'm afraid of the water and the creatures under me. I hike in the mountains - often alone with the forest creatures. I've made trips by myself - I never would have in the past. And yes, this year, I put on the parachute again! Jumping at three different drop zones, I bought 26 one way tickets - UP - and got my skydiving "A" license. Facing fears has given me the courage and confidence to LIVE regardless of what's going on around me!
