About Vendor

Snap Four is New England's hottest new gypsy jazz ensemble. Since emerging out of the Boston gypsy jazz scene in 2011, their music has been called engaging, delightfully rich, and infectious. Their interesting arrangements and fresh new take on this lively genre have been opening ears throughout New England. Performing everything from classic Django Reinhardt tunes to cutting edge original compositions, their music is a joy to hear. Nick Norman — Jazz Violin Nick has studied and performed music of many styles. He began his study of Classical Violin at the age of 7 years, performed in the Stetson University symphony orchestra starting at age 10, continued studying and performing an eclectic variety of styles encompassing Rock, Country, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Bluegrass, Fusion and now Gypsy Jazz. He majored in jazz at University of Miami, studying jazz theory, composition and performance. He has performed and recorded in many settings, from the Miami jazz faculty to regular performance with jazz master Ira Sullivan, to jazz clubs of Atlantic City and many locations around New England. At present, Nick is very active in the Boston Gypsy Jazz scene. Jack Soref — Jazz Guitar Boston's premiere Jazz Manouche teacher, student, and guitarist, Jack has been heard on radio and at festivals all over the country. He has been featured on NPR, BBC World, WMBR and WZBC as well as the main stage at the Midwest Gypsy Swing Festival, Django in June, and three years in a row at the Brooklyn Djangology festival. Jack has performed with such Gypsy Jazz luminaries as Gonzalo Bergara, Violinist Tim Kliphius, the great German Sinto musician Titi Bamberger. For half of 2011, Jack studied the music of Django Reinhardt at its source by moving to Paris, France. While there he jammed with the old masters like Boulou Ferré (the son of Django's friend and accompanist Matelot Ferret), and Romanian violin maestro Florin Niculescu as well as the young virtuoso's currently storming the Paris scene. Sasha Kern — Jazz Guitar Sasha Kern is a guitarist, composer and educator based in Boston, MA. His broad repertoire—from twelve-tone music and jazz standards to blues and bossa nova—injects into his music a sense of exploration and individuality. Kern holds BAs in Music and Mathematics from Brandeis University, and recently received a Master's degree in Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory. He performs regularly in New England both as a bandleader and as a side musician. Derek Van Wormer — Jazz Acoustic Bass A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Derek has been carving out a name for himself in the New England music scene since moving to Boston in 2002. An in demand bassist, Derek continues to work professionally with an extensively eclectic number of artists throughout the northeast as a performer, writer, educator, and studio musician. He has toured nationally with a variety of off-Broadway productions, working both out of New York City and Nashville, Tennessee. Music being his life, the only thing he's bothered by is not getting the chance to make some.
