Hello and thanx for stopping by. To give you an idea of my background I performed for several years in varied venues in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, mainly restaurant and private venues. I decided to take a break from active performing for a few years because I had a full time position managing Design & Construction activities for a major Advertising Agency in Midtown Manhattan. Upon retiring in 2013 it was time to return to music so I developed a schedule of Nursing Home performances in the tri-state area and this became quite a busy time averaging 50-80 performances a year. Then as we all remember in 2019 COVID struck at which time live performances ceased to exist. Since then I’ve been fine tuning my solo guitar work in preparation for my re-entry into live music. Having developed a hearing loss issue along the way I decided it was best to employ backing tracks in my performances sparingly as I wanted to concentrate more on solo guitar. I began developing a style of interpreting songs, in spite of my hearing loss, where I rediscovered my musical ability to hear a note and just play it, without a need to recognize the name of the note but simply by hearing the notes pitch I could “play it by ear”. I can’t read music and although there were many years I studied I decided long ago it just wasn’t for me. The whole idea is to make music that comes from within you and I’ve been blessed with “good ears” which allows me to travel this road. I consider my playing style and musical expressions as “improvisation”. This is most helpful when asked to play a song on request. I simply play the medley as I hear it in my head and improvise to make the arrangement both musically interesting and enjoyable to my audience. I apply this musical freedom to my performance of classic instrumental Oldies from the 50's and 60’s, arrangements of the most popular Standards of yesterday and favorites by the vocal groups of the 50’s and 60’s. And from time to time I may even sing a tune. My music roots will always be the music I grew up listening to back in Brooklyn, being Doo Wop and early rock n roll and it brings me a great deal of pleasure to be able to still perform them as I’m now in my 70’s. So that’s all folks and thank you again for stopping by and reviewing my profile. And don’t forget to consider Music by Jim for your next function, you won’t be disappointed. Bye for now, Jim
