Doo Wop Down Memory Lane with MARV ROSENBERG'S SAFARIS of the 1960 Gold Record "Image of a Girl" Fame! A Cappella Doo Wop at its finest! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame winner, Marv Rosenberg, writer of the 1960 Gold Record "Image of a Girl" and founding member of The Safaris who recorded 'Image,' assembled five extremely talented guys to form a 5 part harmony a cappella group because of their love for doo-wop, past experiences in the music industry. The gratification of sharing their talents, and to be part of a group where there are no personal egos and everyone performs as a team is very apparent when they perform. Ironically, the exposed blending of voices within an a cappella setting requires the utmost “harmony” within its members. Ladd Vance, the son of Kenny Vance (who was a member of Jay and the Americans who sang Cara Mia, Come a Little Bit Closer, and other well known hits) had a love for doo-wop. He met Nick Krall... an actor and musician, who also loved doo-wop. The two of them decided to form a group. While looking for a tenor, a bass, and a baritone, many guys came in and out of the group, but they just couldn't find the right fit. They then met Harris Levey, who sings tenor and has had years of experience singing with groups of different genres. Harris mentioned he sang a few shows with The Safaris, of Image of a Girl fame, and that the original member of the group, Marv Rosenberg, a bass singer, may be available. Harris contacted Marv and found him very receptive to singing with them. Lastly, the group needed a baritone. Luckily Joe Wise was available, as Joe was an experienced singer and was someone who had performed with The Safaris a couple of years previous. The group was now complete, and a sense of camaraderie and magic seemed apparent. Marv Rosenberg's Safaris was formed! And the rest, as they say, is history! And that's why you'll swing and sway, croon and swoon, to many old Doo Wop favorites, and of course, the song that put the Safaris on the map Image of a Girl! In March and May, they had sold-out shows and standing ovations! If you love Doo Wop, you will love Marv Rosenberg's Safaris. No need for a band to back them as they are A Cappella!
