TRADITIONAL BELLY DANCE Experience the enchanting world of traditional belly dance with Dorothea, a graceful and seasoned performer helping to keep alive the American Cabaret (AmCab) belly dance tradition. She learned Amcab right after college during the "golden years" of the AmCab style--the 1970's. AmCab is a musical, celebratory, eclectic yet classic belly dance style that in recent decades has experienced decline due to the proliferation of new styles, the decrease of available traditional musicians, and various global and cultural influences. But for those who know and love it, the AmCab style has never lost its magic! With her versatile skills and stunning collection of costumes, Dorothea brings a customized touch to every performance. From the lively sounds of finger cymbals to the swirling beauty of veils and additional props like wings, cane, or sword, Dorothea ensures an authentic and memorable belly dance experience. Dorothea is a timeless, elegant, musically informed, and colorful dancer but not a young dancer. Therefore, she does not perform for "coming of age" parties or any celebration where youth is a perceived requirement. Dorothea loves to perform at cultural, ceremonial, and charity events as well as senior birthday celebrations. For longer events, she can dance and then entertain guests with her violin (she is a classically trained violinist with a keen interest in multi-cultural music). FLUTE AND FLOW Looking for something truly one-of-a-kind? Our Flute and Flow act seamlessly blends music and dance as Bert improvises on wooden flutes over drum tracks while Dorothea interprets the music with traditional belly dance moves and props. Each performance is a magical experience never to be repeated and creates ambiance for both indoor and outdoor settings. For longer shows we offer folkloric music on flute and tambourine or violin and tambourine inspired by various cultures. COMBINED MUSIC AND DANCE PERFORMANCES Since Dorothea is also an in-demand violinist, she can combine a 15-minute dance performance with a music performance of up to an hour. Other musical instruments are recorders (which both Bert and Dorothea play), and when Dorothea and Bert perform as a duo, occasional use of the tambourine for folkloric tunes. For combined music and dance performances, a break will be required so that Dorothea can change from dance to music apparel.
