About Vendor

I have been a professional bagpiper for 38 years and have played hundreds of services, celebrations and parties. I have won numerous prizes for solo and band competitions and have played in several competitive pipe bands including Portland Metro Pipe Band and Grade 2 Cameron Highlanders Pipe Band. Besides playing solo, I also perform with a mini-band, Northern Lights, for events requiring multiple pipers and drums. For this, I work with some of the premiere pipe band players and Celtic musicians in the Portland area. In addition to the Highland bagpipes I also offer Scottish Smallpipes (a quieter, bellows-blown bagpipe). These can be a good fit for more intimate gatherings and some hosts enjoy having both instruments featured during their event. I play a variety of events throughout the Pacific Northwest and offer affordable rates for the Portland Metro area, Vancouver, Longview and Kelso as well as the north Oregon Coast region including Astoria, Warrenton, Gearhart, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Manzanita, as well as the SW Washington region including Seaview and the Long Beach Peninsula. Once we connect via phone, text, or email, we can go over the specifics of your event. Once your event is confirmed I will email you the details that we've discussed and you may contact me with changes as needed. My quote includes up to 2 hours on-site, your choice of songs, and travel time. Every event is unique - some are concise, with a couple tunes to mark the occasion while others include longer medleys and interludes. On the day of an event, I show up 15 - 30 minutes beforehand to check in with you and get up-to-speed with any changes that might've occurred and take care of any pre-event coordination and questions. A typical Funeral Service: I often play as guests arrive to the graveside or cemetery. Bagpipes tunes are quite short so rather than play one piece I’ll play an assortment of somber tunes. This will be for about 10-15 minutes as guests are seated. During the service I might be asked to play a particular piece or set of pieces, depending on the wishes of the client. If I do play during the service I’ll often play Amazing Grace (2 verses). If not I usually close the ceremony with Amazing Grace or another appropriate song.
